During the 2019-2020 wrestling season, Lakeview’s wrestling team became 5-time district champions, defeating Grosse Pointe North (48-27) and Grosse Pointe South (42-21).

Every wrestler on this team put their blood, sweat, and tears into this season. When they walked off the floor, they left everything out there.

As most athletes would agree, when you want to win, you put in as much hard work and dedication that is needed.

“We practiced at our maximum potential everyday leading up to the tournament. Everyone had one goal and it was to win,” stated Drake Krohta, ‘22.

Wanting to win districts is one thing, but trying to uphold the title of 5-time reigning champs adds even more pressure.

“For sure not knowing what the other teams were gonna do and not knowing if our own teammates were gonna make weight was really stressful,” explained Frank Cacevic, ‘21.

Not only are the wrestlers responsible for their own person and maintaining weight, they also have to be there to support and encourage every one of their teammates.

“When you spend everyday with the same people, you end up becoming really close. We try our best to support each other on and off the mats. We just want to meet our max potential,” expressed Jack Majewski, ‘21.

Most of these are still trying to reach their max potential. The team lost quite a few wrestlers due to graduation, but they also welcomed many newcomers who are just getting exposure to the sport.

It’s exciting to see what these boys have in store next. Many wish to make it to states next year; they plan on doing so by working hard during the off season and coming back stronger than ever.

Lakeview is beyond proud of their accomplishments, and wish them nothing but luck in their upcoming journeys.
