How Stan Lee’s cameos have affected Marvel movies

Kyle Hedge, Staff Writer

Since the passing of Stan Lee in November, many people have mourned, yet his legacy still lives on. Marvel’s most recent movie, Captain Marvel, released last Friday on Mar. 8, was the first movie, since his death, to feature an appearance. The movie paid tribute to him in showing Captain Marvel on the Subway looking for a Skrull (alien race) and looking over was Stan Lee, reading lines for his movie from the 90s, MallRats. It said that he will also be making an appearance in Avengers Endgame and Spiderman Far From Home.

Lee was the creator of Marvel Comics. Making his cameos in all the Marvel movies is a way of paying tribute to his work and in a way, a little Easter Egg for Marvel fans. His cameos are also, in a way, him giving “a stamp of approval” to the films.

“He made everything GREAT!” stated James O’hara, sophomore at LHS. In every cameo Lee was in, he always makes a funny joke or pun.

In Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, Lee was seen talking about how he used to be a FedEx guy, referencing to his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. This clearly tells us that all Lee’s cameos are connected. His first cameo was in “The Trial of The Incredible Hulk”, In which he is appeared as a jury foreman in the trial of Dr. David Banner (aka The Incredible Hulk). His first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in Iron Man where he is seen at the Gala with three blondes.

If it wasn’t for Lee’s cameos, Marvel could have gone downhill. Lee has given many people inspiration of hope. His stories have helped people get through hard times. For instance, Lee has written stories about Spider-Man, which he is a kid in high school trying to fit in and keep things together.

“It made Marvel better than DC because DC doesn’t have any cameos,” stated Tristen St. Pierre, ‘21.

Lee once made a cameo in a DC animated movie. In the animated movie, Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, made an appearance and said, “This is Stan Lee-dig my subtle cameo! This is a DC movie? I gotta get outta here!” This was a big surprise for fans. This basically symbolizes that Lee is a symbol of the entire superhero genre to general audiences. So Lee really had a big effect on everyone who watched Marvel movies.

RIP Stan Lee
