On Saturday, Sept. 8, Ed Sheeran performed in downtown Detroit at Ford Field. This marked the seventh show in the United States on his 2018 Divide tour.

The Divide album was released in March of 2017. It was declared the biggest album of 2017. It was such a huge success that Sheeran added dates on to his tour and visited some cities twice.

His first show was back on Sept. 27, 2017 at Little Caesars Arena. His latest show in Detroit is the biggest show he has ever played in Michigan.

Opening for Sheeran was Anne Marie, an English pop singer, and Snow Patrol, a Northern Irish rock band.

Sarah Dembinski, ‘21 got her tickets off of Ticketmaster when they came out back in February.

Dembinski explained, “ It was so worth spending the money, Ed puts on an amazing show.”

Sheeran performed his entire show by himself switching between two acoustic guitars and using a looping pedal. This is a piece of equipment located on the ground by his feet. It allows Sheeran to record a beat and replay it on a continuous loop just by tapping a certain pedal.

Throughout the show, Sheeran would encourage everyone to live in the moment by  singing along and dancing like no one was watching. Sheeran also gave shout outs to all the boyfriends and “superdads” who came along just to make their dates happy.

Junior, Anthony Ross, attended the concert with his family and friends and had an awesome experience.

Ross responded, “My favorite thing was just the life of the concert, everyone was very excited and happy to be there, and everyone knew all the songs and were having the best time.”

Although the tour was for his Divide album, Sheeran played songs from his older albums as well. Performing his most popular songs like “Thinking Out Loud” and “Photograph” was a great way to get everyone, even the “superdads”, to sing along.

Senior, Alyssa Armento, was determined to attend the concert this year after missing her chance last time.

“My favorite song that he played was probably Galway Girl because that’s my favorite song on the album,” expressed Armento.

Ed Sheeran delivered an amazing performance and made the experience worth every penny. He performed a variety of different songs from his most recent hits to his older albums. His energy on stage radiated throughout the crowd and made for an unforgettable night.
