Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of the warm weather, free time, and awesome parties. There’s nothing better than spending time with friends and family. What adds to this quality time is the fresh air and all of the activities that come with it.

The biggest key to a great party is games that will bring everyone together and make for some fun summer memories. They can be store bought or made at home. Either way, they’ll make your party one for the books.

Spike ball is a great option to have at any event. It is a four person game that is very easy to learn. First, the players gather around the spikeball net in a circle. One of the players begins by spiking the ball on to the net and then the other players have up to three hits to score. If they miss, then the first server wins that point. It’s a very fun game to play and watch, great for a backyard party!

Evelyn Karustis ‘20, recently played spike ball at a party.

Karustis stated, “Spike ball is fun because it includes everyone!”

Paint wars is another summer activity that’s great for big groups of people. This is a really easy game that you can put together yourself. Some materials you could get are white t shirts, water balloons, water guns, and washable paint. It’s a very simple activity that gives participants freedom to run around and make a mess. Having a paint fight is a party must for the summertime.

An awesome game that will get everyone fired up and excited is dodgeball. Players  are typically divided into two teams- the more people the better! The object of the game is to hit players on the opposing team to get them out. The rules are usually very simple to follow. For example, no throwing at heads and stay in boundaries. Playing this with water balloons instead of dodgeballs is also an easy way to cool off on a hot summer day. It’s a very simple game, but it can bring any party to life.

Capture the flag is the perfect way to get your energy out and still have a good time. There are two teams, each with their own flag. Each team has their own side where they hide and guard their flag. The goal is to capture the other team’s flag and bring it back to your side. The catch is that you can be captured by the other team if you are on their side. If you’re captured and put in “jail” then a member from your team has to tag you in order to set you free. The game is easy to learn once you start playing, and it’s very exciting to run around without being caught.

Another amusing and inexpensive party activity is shaving cream twister. For this one you can’t be afraid to make a mess! A really easy way to set this up is spray painting the twister board circles onto the grass. This makes it more functional so players don’t slip on the mat. On top of the circles you can placed colored shaving cream to make the game even more enjoyable. The same rules of twister apply, but now with the added challenge.

Getting together with family and friends is always a good time, especially during the summer. What makes it even better is having games and activities to bring everyone closer. It doesn’t have to be super competitive or difficult, just something to entertain and bring everyone together. Summer parties are always a fun time, and a great change to break out some awesome games.
