Four-year varsity basketball player Seanna Saccone, ‘18 has not had the most ideal start to her final high school basketball season. Throughout the course of the season Saccone has been affected by multiple injuries.  Not being 100% healthy has already affected her playing time in the first half of the season greatly.

This season Saccone has been affected by injuries to her groin, back, and ribs.  All of these have impacted her ability to remain in games for as many minutes as she would like.

“It’s always fun watching my team play because we’re a really fun group of girls; but, it’s my senior year, so I’d definitely rather be out there playing with them,” Saccone stated.

Varsity coach, Joe Charrette is also very upset with having a senior who is not able to play.

He said, “Seanna not being able to play breaks my heart.  Especially after she worked so hard in the offseason to prepare for her senior year.”

Because Saccone, a starter, is not able to play in the majority of the games as expected, other players have stepped up to fill her spot very well when she is taken out of the game.  A few of these players Charrette feels have taken this opportunity to earn more playing time include freshman, Tricia Sankiewicz and junior, Rishynah Lewis.

However, Saccone is expecting to be back 100% very soon.  She stated, “I’m trying to get myself back in shape so that I’ll be back on the court sooner rather than later.”

Charrette also expects Saccone to be back fully healthy soon.

He said, “I think she’s very close to being back to playing her usual number of minutes.  She’s moving better in practice, lasting longer, and she’s shooting the ball really well now.”

The Huskies, who are undefeated on the season (11-0, 5-0) hope to continue their success when Saccone returns.  In recent years she has been a key scorer for the team but is only averaging around 4 points this year.  Charrette is expecting big results from her to help the team win when she gets back to playing full games.
