   2017 was a huge year for music. Plenty of artists skyrocketed in this year, and their albums were off the charts. It was a very good year for many artists like, Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage, Khalid, Lana Del Rey, and Harry Styles.

  Kendrick Lamar’s album, DAMN came out April 14. He had  the big hits ‘Humble’ and ‘DNA’ coming with this album.  He performed at VMA’S and even won the “MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year.”

  Christine Layer, ‘19 loved the DAMN album, and her favorite song was ‘Humble’

  “I think he really excelled as an Hip-Hop artist this year. I have the entire album on my phone. The music video for Humble was shot very cool, he used many different angles, and overall it was just a good video, he deserved the award he got.”

 Khalid’s album, American Teen was also very popular this year. He came out with a great album, and was featured in the most moving song of 2017, “1-800-273-8255” ,hotline for suicide, and he performed it at the VMA’S with Logic, and Alessia Cara.

  Aubrie Skill ,’18 is a huge fan of Khalid and even got tickets for hisJune concert.

  “I love his voice, and I can relate to a lot of things he talks about in his songs. I don’t necessarily have a favorite song by him, they all mean something to me in different ways.

  Logic’s album Everybody came out this year as well. Logic was also an artist that influenced 2017 this year. His hit song, “1-800-273-8255”, which is the suicide prevention line, made calls increase after the release of this song. He saved hundreds of people by creating a song that is such a huge topic.

  Luciano Caruso, ‘19, is a huge fan of logic, and went to his last concert when Logic was in Michigan.

  “He is a great lyricist, and he loves to speak his mind, no matter what people think about him. My favorite songs off of his album has to be “1-800-273-8255” and “Everybody”. I like these songs because the have great messages behind them.”

  21 Savage came out with the Issa album with very popular songs this year. The songs include Bank Account, Numb, and Bad Business.

  The Issa album was huge, even had a popular meme to come with it. There’s plenty of people who love 21 Savage. He had another album called Without Warning come out in 2017. It was a big year for 21.

  Kyle Wright, ‘19, said that he is a huge fan of 21 Savage, and likes all of his music.

  “I like a lot of rappers like him, and 21 Savage is just overall a good artist, he makes really good songs that everyone likes, and that are popular and you hear everywhere.”
