Lakeview alumni, Olivia Krohta ‘17, recently moved to Alaska to pursue her medical career in the Coast Guard.

During her senior year, when she was filling out applications, Krohta was not very excited about the whole college experience. She didn’t want to go through another four years of school. She decided to go into the medical field and decided to look into the military. She wanted to meet new people, and get into the medical field to help people right away.

Krohta stated, “I really wanted to branch out, travel, and do something totally different and new.”

She wanted to get job exposure right away and wanted to meet new people from across the country.

She traveled to New Jersey for boot camp, and was ready for a challenge.

Krohta also stated, “I wanted to see if I was strong enough to overcome everything and to take that in as a new learning experience.”

After two long months at boot camp, she returned back to Michigan in October.

She soon found out that she would be going to Kodiak, Alaska. She mentioned she was super excited and was ready for a change because being in the same place for so long bored her.

Krohta was sad leaving all of her friends and family behind, but she knew this would be a great opportunity for herself.

She added, “As for leaving people behind, I miss them a lot, but in the end, I just came to terms that I was making a great decision for myself and those people that I loved would always be there for me wherever I was.”

She is grateful she has a great support system to be there for her. Her brother, Ivan Krohta ‘19, thought it would be a great opportunity for her to live on her own.

Ivan stated, “Even though I wish was she was around, I know she’s maturing a tremendous amount out there.”

Ivan also added that he knew that Krohta would love it there.

He added, “She’s always been an outgoing person and never gives up on anything that she sets her mind to, so I never had a doubt in my mind that she wouldn’t like it.”

Krohta is ready for the new chapter in her life, and she can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her.
