On Apr. 3, Jennifer Laukonis, ‘20 won a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida to spend a day with Little Mix.

On Feb. 28, a contest was announced including a prize of spending a day with Little Mix at Universal Studios. Little Mix is a British girl group consisting of Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. To enter the contest, contestants needed to create an original video including 30 seconds of the song “Touch” by Little Mix. Laukonis filmed, edited, and posted her own submission video onto Twitter. The video was filmed at the Motown Museum in Detroit, Michigan. The submission video featured Laukonis lip syncing in front of the museum.

“I got my inspiration from Jade Thirlwall. She wrote an Instagram post about how she wanted to visit the Motown Museum and wasn’t able to go,” Laukonis explained.

On Apr. 3, Laukonis was at the mall with her mother when she saw that Little Mix had followed and messaged her on Twitter. The message told her to message a Sony producer regarding the contest.

“I shouted for my mom and cried in the dressing room. I was extremely happy,” she said.

After she emailed the producer, he notified her that she had won the contest.

Laukonis’ friend, Alyssa Langley, ‘20, was also very excited about Laukonis’ accomplishment.

“She’s very lucky and deserved to win,” Langley said.

Laukonis’ excitement was overwhelming as she boarded a plane with her dad and took off for Orlando on Apr. 14, at 6:00AM.

“I was extremely nervous, but I was also really excited,” Laukonis recalled.

When she landed, she spent her free time exploring the park and riding the rides.

“My overall favorite part of the park was the Harry Potter section. I started reading the books and watching the movies after I found out I won the trip, so it was very interesting to see the books and movies come to life,” Laukonis said.

On the second day of the trip, Laukonis and three other winners met Little mix. They spent the whole day riding rides and exploring the park with the band. The winners were filmed all day by AwesomenessTV, an American media and entertainment company owned by Dreamworks Animation and Verizon Hearst Media Partners. The footage was later aired on the AwesomenessTV YouTube channel.

“I was nervous, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable. They were very friendly and everyone was really excited,” Laukonis recalled.

That night, Laukonis and the other winners attended an Ariana Grande concert at the Amway Center in downtown Orlando. Little Mix opened for the concert. It was the third Ariana Grande concert Laukonis has attended.

“It was different from my other concert experiences because we were closer to the stage. It really made the experience more memorable, and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to,” she said.

The day after the concert, Laukonis spent the day exploring the park with her dad. The next morning, she again boarded a plane and headed back to Michigan.

“I didn’t want to leave and I was really sad, but it was the best experience I’ve ever had,” Laukonis recalled.

The contest was one of Laukonis’ biggest accomplishments, and she will always look back on her experience with great pleasure.
