If you are looking for a good place to get away from the busy city life, you are ready to travel up to Michigan’s Thumb to a city called Caseville. This city was founded in the year of 1836 and has many historical attractions.

Throughout the city there are many small shops that offer a wide variety of Caseville apparel and other merchandise. The biggest highlight that draws many to the city is the Cheeseburger Festival which occurs in August.

The Cheeseburger Festival is a week-long event where many different vendors and restaurants sell cheeseburgers in hopes that they will win the best cheeseburger of the year.

Dante Hage, ‘19 stated, “I like the Cheeseburger Festival because everything is laid back and calm. The burgers are really good, but they are pricy. Overall I have a great time at the festival.”

Another feature that makes this such a great event is the many different bands play music such as boating music and country music. The volleyball games and boats along the beaches also make for a great way to spend an evening in Michigan’s Thumb.

If you want to get away from the crowd in the city, you have the option to spend time on the great Saginaw Bay. The bay offers many great fishing opportunities such as walleyes and perch and sightseeing views such as North Island or Sandpoint. In August, Saginaw Bay is very warm around the 60s and 70 degree mark so you don’t have to worry about cold temperatures for swimming.

Maria Marable, ‘17 has a house in Caseville and loves to spend most of her summer up there. Marable stated, “I enjoy the crazy people and all the crazy hats that people wore during the festival.” Marable has been going up there for eight years and enjoys the comradery of all the fun things on the beach and in the city. She enjoys the music that many of the bands perform for entertainment.

Caseville is the place to be come August, and if you enjoy big crowds and a fun filled city, then Caseville awaits for you. There are many different lodges/motels along M-25 or there are many campgrounds in the area. This years Cheeseburger festival will take place August 11-20.
