Christmas time is near, which calls for decorating your tree and watching some Christmas movies. Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas is something that people have been enjoying since 1996. The 2016 schedule has been released and will begin airing on Thursday, December 1. It will run for 25 continuous days including festive movies and specials, classic holiday movies, and returning favorites.

Most Lakeview students favorites are comedies like Elf and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. However, some students enjoy watching classics such as, A Christmas Story and Home Alone. Lakeview students were interviewed on why some of these movies are their favorites.

Elf

Elf, airing in 2003, is one of the most popular Christmas movies. Buddy the Elf is a baby in an orphanage who gets into Santa’s sack and ends up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs.

Austin Zeiter, ‘18 stated, “Elf is one of my family’s favorite movies. We love to watch it together on Christmas Eve.”

Alex Guzzardo, ‘18 said, “I love Will Ferrel, so Elf is by far my favorite Christmas movie. I’ve watched it so many times and it never gets old.”

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been a family favorite Christmas movie for 16 years. It takes a creative spin on the holiday and what it’s all about. Most Christmas movies are based on the joy and love of Christmas, while this movie focuses on a character who despises Christmas. In Whoville, live the Whos. All the Whos love Christmas, but outside of their town Whoville lives the Grinch. The Grinch is a nasty creature that hates Christmas, and plots to steal it away from the Whos which he disgusts.

Alyssa Peltier, ‘18 stated, “The Grinch is by far my favorite Christmas movies. I’ve been watching it since I was little and have loved it ever since!”

Seanna Saccone, ‘18 stated, “The Grinch is such a funny movie and I love watching it during Christmas time. My favorite part is when the Grinch is deciding what outfit to wear.”

A Christmas Story

A Christmas Story is the most classic Christmas movie, airing in 1983. It is a perfect family comedy. A young boy named Ralphie attempts to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect Christmas gift.

Sierra Derian, ‘19 said, “I love this movie because it is such a classic and my family and I love to watch it together.”

Sam Mackool ‘18 stated, “My brother and I watch it together every year on Christmas. It’s like a tradition we have now.”

Nick Wozniak ‘18 stated, “The Christmas Story is super funny and my favorite Christmas movie. The best part is when the kid gets his tongue stuck to the pole.”

Home Alone

Home Alone has been a very well known Christmas movie since 1990. It’s Christmas time and the McCallister family is preparing to head to Paris for vacation. When the family attends their flight, they realize they forgot their son, Kevin. Kevin has to deal with being home all alone and going through different situations on his own.

Lawrence Kopitzke, ‘18 stated, “Home Alone has always been my favorite Christmas movie. There are so many funny parts that I always laugh at.”

Ashley Kardos, ‘18 said, “Home Alone has always been a family favorite of mine. Whenever I have Christmas movie marathon, I’m always looking forward to this one.”

All of these student favorite movies air on Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas multiple times.
